ISSA Championships Finals Day.
SSA CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS DAY
Despite the controversial officiating and blatant errors we have seen at these championships, the final day of championships promises to be exciting.
On the boy’s side, Jamaica College seems to have thrown in the towel after a disastrous third day when they did not complete two relays and lost more valuable points due to injury. The interest in the boy’s championships will not be about if Kingston College can defend their title, but more about the quality performances we can expect from the athletes.
Things are quite a bit different on the girl’s side, with Edwin Allen and Hydel looking to continue their battle for championship supremacy. Hydel was disqualified from two relays, and that will certainly be a major talking point if Hydel loses by a narrow margin. Immaculate high school seems on track to win the urban title, with Wolmers and Excelsior breathing down their necks. That would certainly be a historic moment.
As far as individual events are concerned, the girls 200m class one should prove to be as exciting as the girls 100m, with Alana Reid looking to break both the champs and national record. If the wind cooperates, we will certainly see a time below 22.50 seconds. Shaquane Gordon in the class II 110m hurdles and the clash between Habiba Harris, Kiara Meikle and Bryana Davidson in the class II 100m hurdles could prove to be record breaking affairs.
