JAMAICA NATIONAL SENIOR TRIALS 2022
It is that time of the year again and the National Senior Trials will take place this weekend. Of course there will be surprises, but based on the performances we have seen so far, we will try to review some of the events we think are of interest to most Jamaican track fans.
MALE EVENTS
Since the retirement of Usain Bolt, Jamaican male sprinters have been disappointing. However, it seems as if the sprint capital is fast becoming the hurdles capital with a number of world class sprint hurdlers vying to make the team.
100 Metres
Oblique Seville and Akeem Blake have given Jamaica hope that we will soon have our male sprinters vying for medals on the world stage. Other youngsters like Conroy Jones and Kishane Thompson could also make their mark on these trials.

400 Metres
The only reason why the 400m event will be mildly interesting is because Jamaica will always send a mile relay team. But so far this season, only one athlete has run below 45 seconds and he looked average at the NCAA finals.

110M Hurdles
Last year the male sprint hurdles race was rife with controversy, with Olympic champion Omar McLeod knocked out and some fans screaming for him to be reinstated. Rasheed Broadbell had also run one of the fastest times during the season and some expected that he would get a medical exemption. Luckily the powers that be ignored those screams and Hansie Parchment won gold while Ronald Levy won bronze in Tokyo. On Sunday, all four athletes will line up to contest the THREE available spots.

800M Men
Can former St. Jago athlete Navasky Anderson break the national record and go below 1:45? Will Jvoughn Blake contest this event against the seniors? This may be the most competitive field we have ever seen in a local men’s 800M.

The Other Events
Of course, there are other events that may not be as competitive as the sprints or hurdles, but Jamaicans are in the hunt for medals.
Men’s Discus.
Can Frederick Dacres and Travis Smikle both throw over 66 meters at trials? This could put them in position to contest for minor medals at Eugene.
